SPECIAL CLASSES

Division E - Grande Dam and Grande Sire Competition

This competition is based upon the achievements by the offspring (1st generation, 2nd generation, 3rd generation or more) of either a Dam or Sire. The Dam or Sire whose offspring accumulate the most points from individual classes at the National Alpaca Sweepstakes, wins the Grande Dam or Grande Sire Competition. There are four competitions - one is the Grande Dam and the other is the Grande Sire in each of the Huacaya and Suri Divisions. Cash awards to be determined.

Eligibility

  • The Farm nominating the Dam and/or Sire must own that Dam or Sire. Co-owned Dams or Sires will be allowed.
  • The Farm nominating the Dam and/or Sire must be participating in the National Alpaca Sweepstakes with show entries in Divisions A, B, and/or C. For joint ownerships, at least one (1) of the owners must be participating.
  • The Farm nominating the Dam and/or Sire must pay the required entry fees and supply the required information.
  • The Dam and/or Sire nominated does not have to be an entry in the Show.

Required Information

  • An ARI certificate for each Dam or Sire Nominated. Ownership shown on the Certificate shall determine eligibility noted above.
  • A list of the offspring of the Dam or Sire nominated that are entries in the National Alpaca Sweepstakes accompanied by their ARI certificates.

Point Scoring

  • No additional judging will be done for this competition. Point scoring will be determined from the classes of all divisions already judged.
  • Points will be determined as follows: An alpaca will receive the number of points based upon how many alpacas it is placed above in that class. Examples: If an alpaca places 3rd out of a class of 10, it will receive 7 points. If it places 6 out of class of 6, it will receive 0 points. If it places 1st out of 15 alpacas, it will received 14 points.
  • The 1st Generation offspring will earn 100% of these points, the 2nd Generation offspring will earn 75% of these points, the 3rd Generation will earn 50% of these points and the 4th or more Generation will earn 25% of the points.
  • All the points accumulated by all the offspring will be added for the score of that nominated Dam or Sire. The highest score wins.
  • Important Note: In larger classes of the Sweepstakes, judges will only place 10 alpacas. Alpacas that are not placed by at least one judge will earn no points.
