Sweepstakes Show Guidelines

If you are looking for simple, straightforward, common sense show guidelines you will love Sweepstakes! Show guidelines are a simple, easy-to-follow alternative to complex rules and regulations. This approach acknowledges a high level of trust in all contestants' honesty, integrity, and competence. In return, Sweepstakes encourages all contestants to compete in a fair, friendly, and conscientious manner. Expert alpaca judges will evaluate alpacas fairly

Guidelines:

  • Alpacas must be registerd with ARI and be shown under the ARI registerd Owner Name.
  • There are no fleece limits.
  • Alpacas may be shorn and will be judged fairly by expert alpaca judges.
  • Fleece sample requested but not required for entry.
  • Alpacas must be shown in natural condition; artificial enhancements are discouraged and will not be rewarded.
  • Fiber samples will be evaluated by the judges in the show ring for all positive and negative fiber characteristics, including fineness, luster, uniformity without guard hair, and handle.
  • Alpaca judging criteria will emphasize the industry recognized POSITIVE TRAITS for Conformation and Fiber. Suris will be evaluated under the Suri Network Breed Standard criteria.

Breeder Classes

Grande SIRE and Grande DAM Classes are based on a point system calculated from the winnings of offspring at the show, and accumulated in the Sweepstakes HALL of FAME. Nominate your Dams and Sires and add their names to the Recognition Award list of Proven Producers.

GET-of-SIRE Class awards are based on the Judges' evaluation of 3 offspring from the same Sire based on the uniformity of similar positive traits across the group to represent the best of that Sire. Entry will be made by owner of the Sire with offspring to be verified by ARI Pedigree (may include offspring from various owners).

Divisions are offered for both LIGHT and DARK Groups of 3 offspring for Huacaya and Suri, based on the prime color of the majority of the group. Judges' decisions for color will be the final decision.

NEW Class for STATE HERD Awards to be evaluated and presented to the group of 5 alpacas, all with residence in the same state, entered from a minimum of 2 different owners and\or farms. Judge evaluations will be based on consistency of positive traits, marketability and presentation to represent the State Group. Special Awards.
